These notes were taken during LABtoLAB meeting in Budapest, 10th December 2009.
The aim of this activity was to discuss very basic questions about the role, context and methodology of media labs (who and why? where and when? what and how?)
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Why?
Medialab as an inhabitant within the boundaries in between several "worlds" or "disciplines". It works as a permeability-generator, and sometimes also as an incubator for those knowledge ecosystems that need care. Its permeability makes the boundary blur and be wider, and hence the medialab territory enters a bit more into the "worlds", before strongly spread apart. That territory has place for failure and non-finished processes. Digital culture is just a concrete historical moment where our labs exist, but they could and should exist in every sort of culture, as they are key for transdisciplinar knowledge and thinking, and hence for conforming a complete picture of any culture.
Who?
anybody instead of everybody (isocracy instead of oclocracy). "Anybody" embraces the difference, and hence is inclusive. Concept of "empowerment".
